Day in the life of a cloth diapering momma

ok here goes i thought this would be an interesting post, as many of you hear the words cloth diaper and shudder thinking of plastic pants, diaper pins and ill fitting pieces of cotton. I never thought i would enjoy cloth diapering...i thought it was more for those hippie, salad eating, earth lovin' green mamas. But today there are sooooooo many diapering options, i will tell you of the couple i have tried.

Normally at night i always put livie in a disposable diaper, cuz i will admit it, i am lazy. So when she wakes up, which right now is normally around 8 or 9am i first feed her breakfast then proceed to put her in cloth. I use flips, which are amazing diapers....they have a leak proof cover with a liner placed inside. Very rarely do they ever leak, and i am very happy to announce no blowouts (knock on wood)(for all you mommies out there you know how important that is!). I have noticed that the cloth does make her bum a little more fluffy, so some of her tighter clothes don't fit...but for the most part they are very slim (as far as cloth is concerned). After some playtime it is time for the next change....if just wet then all i do is take the insert out and put in a new dry one, if poopy then i change everything and put a new cover and liner on her. To rinse out the diapers i have the greatest tool ever...a diaper sprayer....genius....no touching poo...simply point the water sprayer and vola poo gone, and i can throw the diapers into the laundry bag. Alivia goes through about 3 or 4 cloth diapers a day....i only do laundry once a
week (and when i do i have a ton of diapers to wash!) cuz i don't have a washer and dryer at my place...if i did i would throw a load in more often. Now when i wash my diapers i use the hottest water possible to clean and always do an extra rinse to make sure i get all the soap out...cuz if ya don't the diapers stop absorbing as well and can start smellin...and if you ask me that just ain't fun. I use a free and clear detergent one that has no perfumes or dyes in it...so no extra junk and funk gets in the diapers. After the diapers have gone through the wash cycle i only dry the liners, the covers i line dry cuz of the plastic coating...i would hate for them to stop
becoming leakproof. Ususally when the dryer cycle clicks off the liners are still wet so they hang dry the rest of the way...and quick tip *if your diapers are slightly stained if you hang them outside in the sun, more often than not the sun will bleach your diapers clean.
I have also tried using one size fits all diapers that were handmade....i love the adorable prints, but...they aren't leakproof so often i put a cover on top which defeats the entire purpose of the cute diaper so i don't use them very often. I would love to find some cute printed covers!

Ok i hope i cleared up a few of the misconceptions about cloth diapering....and that it is less intimidating now.
